The appearance of chromatophores on the posterior and subsequently anterior side can be used to stage the embryos. Lateral LSFM images after DAPI staining show the internalization of the mouth (white arrows) with the mouth lying outside the arm crown at Stage XIV and inside by Stage XVI.
