The mfr sperm activation defect. This confocal image shows an egg inseminated by sperm produced by a dj-GFP;mfrZ0695/Df(3L)h-i22 male. A DJ-GFP fusion protein (green) labels the sperm tail and reveals that entry into the egg, including the entire sperm tail, is complete. DAPI (blue) staining shows that the sperm nucleus remains condensed. The female meiotic products (arrow) also remain peripherally localized at the anterior end of the egg.
